In an outstanding mound performance Thomas Hoose fired a complete-game shutout against the Cardinals. He tossed a 4-hitter for Colorado to beat St. Louis 4-0 at Stewart Park.
To this point in the season, Hoose shows a 10-5 record, 20 starts, 131.1 innings, 57 strikeouts and a 3.77 ERA. |
 | Sunday, August 6th, 2028: League Suspends Barbeau, Failed Drug Test
Baseball has another casualty in its war on illegal drugs -- Mario Barbeau, center fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 36-year-old player failed a test recently and now will be suspended 10 games. The league office did not identify the drug and would not elaborate on the suspension.
This year Barbeau is hitting .273, produced 8 RBIs and 0 home runs, scored 11 times and gotten on base at a .390 rate. |

An efficient outing for Valentin Ortiz usually means a win for St. Louis. Today was no exception, as the 33-year-old starter held Pittsburgh to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 4 and gave up 2 hits in the 5-0 shutout.
