| Breaking News | | Thursday, June 8th, 2028: Unknown Hurt, Out for Year The season is finished for Joe Unknown of the Tacoma Rainiers. The club announced today that he will forego the rest of the year because of injury. The Rainiers reliever suffered a torn rotator cuff muscle while throwing a pitch in a recent game against the Fresno Grizzlies. Team doctors said it would take at least 7-8 months to heal.
| | Saturday, June 3rd, 2028: Villalobas 5-8 for Tacoma It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-8 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Ángel Villalobas got one today. He scattered hits all over Raniers Ballpark to pace Tacoma to a 12-11 victory over Salt Lake.
The Salt Lake skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Villalobas hit several that he is not supposed to hit."
Á. Villalobas was hit by a pitch in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, grounded out in the 9th, grounded out in the 12th, doubled in the 14th and hit an RBI single in the 16th.
In 59 games this year Villalobas has posted a .308 average and put up these numbers: no home runs, 31 RBIs and 35 runs scored. | | Saturday, June 3rd, 2028: 5-Hit Game for Leyva Salt Lake first baseman Norberto Leyva could do no wrong as he collected 5 hits against Tacoma, but he couldn't win the game. "It's a shame we didn't win. It would have been a very special day if that had happened. But it didn't. At least my batting average didn't take a plunge, too," he said. The Bees were beaten 12-11 at Bees Ballpark by the Rainiers.
"In every one of his at-bats, things were in his favor... he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Rainiers said to the press corps after the game.
Leyva agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
N. Leyva hit an RBI single in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th, tripled in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th, struck out in the 12th and singled in the 15th.
Hitting .366 to date, Leyva has 10 home runs and 64 RBIs. He has played in 60 games. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 28-49, .364 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 25.0 GB | | Record at home | 13-23, .361 PCT | | Record on the road | 15-26, .366 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-1, .833 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-13, .435 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 5-8, .385 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 23-41, .359 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 10-18, .357 PCT | | Record in May | 8-21, .276 PCT | | Record in June | 10-10, .500 PCT |
