After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Rome second baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Maxwell finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
R. Maxwell hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

That what happened at yesterday's St. Lucie Mets and Rome Braves game at Ballpark of St. Lucie. What started off as a war of words ended up a tag team match as both clubs rushed on the field to defend their honor. When the umpires sorted it all out, they ejected St. Lucie's Izo Hagiwara and Rome's Bill Burgess from the game for their roles in starting the melee.
Today the players were notified by the league office that they had been suspended 4 games for violating league rules.
Hagiwara has collected 63 hits for the Mets this year, 1 of them home runs. He has also netted 27 RBIs and scored 32 runs while batting .232.
In 2028 Burgess has collected 1 save in 27 relief appearances. He has also notched 14 strikeouts and 14 walks in 43.2 innings while registering a 2.68 ERA and a 6-1 won-lost record. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Kevin Hicks | torn hip muscle | 2 weeks | Not on DL | | 1B Ron Malone | torn rib cage muscle | one week | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 50-27, .649 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 30-11, .732 PCT | | Record on the road | 20-16, .556 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-2, .714 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 16-14, .533 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 15-7, .682 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 35-20, .636 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 22-6, .786 PCT | | Record in May | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in June | 11-9, .550 PCT |
