It was a smooth and solid performance by Mario Vega of the Tampa Yankees against Palm Beach today. He crafted a fine 6-hitter in blanking them 7-0 and chalked up 10 strikeouts and no walks along the way.
"It certainly makes my job easy," said the Tampa skipper. "When my pitcher pitches a shutout. I can just sit back, watch and enjoy."
Up to now Vega has compiled an ERA of 4.78 with a 7-3 mark over 13 starts. He has 83 strikeouts in 84.2 innings and has held opponents to a .274 batting average.

22-year-old Willie McLaughlin sent shock waves through UBL Single A last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Mid Atlantic League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, McLaughlin made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .520 average, 13 hits in 25 at-bats, no home runs and 3 RBI.
Where the Palm Beach Cardinals left fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but McLaughlin certainly made his mark last week.
Posting a .391 batting average to date, McLaughlin has no home runs and 25 RBIs.

 | Thursday, May 25th, 2028: Ramírez Socks it to Storm, Cracks 5 Hits
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Jorge Ramírez. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Ramírez went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Lake Elsinore pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Cardinals Ballpark, he had a career 5-5 day and something he will long remember. And the Palm Beach Cardinals had a 7-1 victory over the Storm.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.
J. Ramírez singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a GRAND SLAM off R. Williams in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off R. Williams in the 9th.
Ramírez is presently hitting at a .313 pace with 3 home runs and 15 RBIs. He has played in 23 games and scored 22 times.
