| Breaking News | | Tuesday, August 8th, 2028: Smith Hitless, Streak Ends at 20 The Lakeland Flying Tigers won the game 4-0 over the Columbus Catfish. At the same time the Catfish mound corps did what no other team could do. They stopped the 20-game hitting streak of Flying Tigers shortstop Mike Smith. But that was still not enough to win the game.
"Our pitchers may have focused a bit too much on stopping Smith," the Columbus manager commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Flying Tigers have other hitters and they did their job today."
This season Smith is hitting .350 with no home runs. | | Sunday, August 6th, 2028: Smith Extends Hit Streak to 20 Games Everyone in Lakeland is getting excited about Mike Smith's hitting streak. The 22-year-old shortstop extended it today to 20 games with 2 hits against Lynchburg. The Flying Tigers took the Hillcats 5-1. M. He has played in 56 games. | | Monday, July 10th, 2028: MAL Star of the Week Announced 21-year-old Thomas Taylor made a few Lakeland headlines during this past week as the rookie third baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols.
