| Breaking News | | Thursday, July 20th, 2028: San Antonio Blanked by Evans The San Antonio Mission were almost helpless today in their 8-0 loss to Jacksonville hurler Larry Evans. He kept them confused the entire ballgame and spun a 4-hit shutout.
The San Antonio manager said in the postgame interview, "Tip your hat to Evans. He kept us off balance all night."
Evans said, "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play. It was just one of those games that things went my way."
He had 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance.
This year Evans has a 3-3 mark in 12 starts with a 3.13 ERA. He has given up 67 hits in 83.1 innings, struck out 85 and issued 27 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .219 batting average against him. | | Friday, June 9th, 2028: Mission 3B Wegg Suspended 6 Games The San Antonio Mission were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Jacksonville at San Antonio Grounds. One in particular -- Henry Wegg. Upon being called out on strikes, the Mission third baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled Wegg lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when Wegg told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in braille, so he can follow along."
For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Wegg for 6 games.
So far in 2028, Wegg is batting .273 with 6 home runs and 29 RBIs. | | Monday, June 5th, 2028: Taylor Selected Top Player So far in his young career, Brant Taylor has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Southern League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 23-year-old San Antonio Mission catcher hit at a torrid .692 clip as he collected 9 hits in 13 at-bats, no home runs, 4 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
Taylor is batting .319 in 2028 with 3 home runs, 20 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 166 at-bats. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 68-52, .567 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 35-25, .583 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-27, .550 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 19-12, .613 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-19, .486 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 50-33, .602 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in May | 22-7, .759 PCT | | Record in June | 16-9, .640 PCT | | Record in July | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record in August | 2-7, .222 PCT |
