 | Saturday, May 27th, 2028: Birmingham's Guzmán Sidelined for Season
The season is apparently over for Manuel Guzmán. The Birmingham Barons medical staff informed the club that the starting pitcher will be out at least 8 months with a torn rotator cuff muscle. Guzmán was hurt in the game against Connecticut while throwing a pitch. The doctors did not think he would recover prior to the end of the season.
On his 2028 stats sheet Guzmán shows a 2-1 record, 6 starts, 45 innings, 23 strikeouts and a 4.40 ERA.

 | Wednesday, May 24th, 2028: Birmingham 2B Quintana Suspended
The Birmingham Barons were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Midland at Barons Ballpark. One in particular -- Manuel Quintana. Upon being called out on strikes, the Barons second baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled Quintana lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when Quintana told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in braille, so he can follow along."
For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Quintana for 5 games.
This year Quintana is hitting .261 with 48 hits, 2 home runs, 29 RBIs and has scored 27 runs.
