Springfield first baseman Roger Baker could do no wrong in today's 6-3 win over the Rock Cats as he collected 5 hits.
"In every one of his at-bats things were in his favor... he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Rock Cats said to the press corps after the game.
Baker agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
R. Baker doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, walked in the 8th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 13th and hit a three-run home run off J. Unknown in the 14th.
This year Baker is batting .302 with 118 hits, 13 home runs, 64 RBIs, 24 walks, .346 OBP and has scored 52 runs.

It was a good day all around. Springfield whipped New Britain 12-9 and Camm Wade displayed a hot bat, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day at Cardinals Ballpark.
"Some days, lady luck is on your side," he modestly told BNN reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. Camm is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have."
The 23-year-old right fielder for the Cardinals collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats to get his name in the record book.
C. Wade singled in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season Wade is batting at a .360 clip with 9 home runs and 36 RBIs.
